World Foundation Raises $52.5 Million to Expand Decentralized Identity Solutions
World Foundation, the organization behind World ID technology, announced a new funding round of $52.5 million. This investment will support the expansion of World ID across various applications and industries as demand for secure digital identity verification grows.
The funding was raised through the sale of WLD tokens to strategic investors, who have agreed to a one-year lockup period. These funds will enable World Foundation to transition the World protocol into an open, decentralized system while ensuring its economic sustainability through application fees.
The Rise of Proof-of-Human Technology
The need for robust digital identity solutions has accelerated with the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI). World ID addresses this challenge by providing a way for individuals to prove their uniqueness without revealing personal information. This “Proof of Human” capability is becoming increasingly critical as AI agents interact more frequently in online environments.
More than 18 million people have already been verified using World ID technology, which has facilitated over 475 million identity proofs across various platforms including communications apps, authentication services, and dating sites. The technology enables a trust layer for digital interactions by verifying that users are unique humans rather than bots or fake accounts.
Strategic Partnerships & Future Applications
World Foundation has forged key partnerships to expand the reach of World ID. Notably, their collaboration with Coinbase provides an agentic web solution that allows AI agents to be linked to verified human operators. This addresses a growing concern about transparency and accountability in AI interactions.
The organization is also working with device manufacturers like Tools for Humanity, which uses its Orb device to create secure digital identities from facial scans. These partnerships are extending World ID’s accessibility while maintaining its privacy-focused design.
