Whiteboard: Where Humans and AI Architect Together
We’re excited to introduce Whiteboard (https://whiteboard.dev.fast/), a new open-source desktop application designed to facilitate thoughtful software design through human-AI collaboration.
The Problem We Solve
As we built agentic coding systems, we found ourselves struggling with ‘cognitive debt’ - the feeling of losing understanding as codebases grew beyond our grasp. This is especially true when autonomous agents make implementation decisions without full human oversight.
Whiteboard’s Approach
Whiteboard addresses this by providing:
- A shared visual workspace: Where humans and AI agents can both contribute diagrams, notes, and code in a single environment
- Semantic connections: Click on any visualization (sequence diagram, ERD) to jump directly to the relevant code - and vice versa
- Intelligent diffs: Our Rust-based viewer highlights only the meaningful changes, summarizing large additions as pseudocode and collapsing irrelevant updates
- Decision Log: Track how autonomous agents arrived at their solutions, linking implementation details back to original requirements
