Upperlink to Support Businesses in Phased Implementation of Mandatory Electronic Invoicing
The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has authorized Upperlink Limited as the system integrator for Nigeria’s national e-invoicing platform. This designation enables Upperlink to connect businesses and institutions to the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS) framework, providing support for real-time invoice validation, secure transmission, and compliant digital tax reporting.
Upperlink Managing Director Olusegun Akano emphasized the company’s readiness for this role, citing its established expertise in enterprise technology, digital infrastructure, and nationwide service delivery. ‘We have a proven track record of delivering secure and scalable platforms across various sectors,’ he stated, highlighting Upperlink’s licenses from both the Central Bank of Nigeria (as a Payment Solution Service Provider) and ICANN (as the first accredited registrar in Nigeria).
The company’s existing solutions like Upperlink Paygate—which aggregates payments across multiple channels—and robust treasury systems demonstrate its capability to handle the invoicing, reconciliation, and compliance workflows required under the new regime. These systems already support large corporations and state governments throughout Nigeria.
Supporting Businesses Through Transition
The NRS approval comes at a crucial time as Nigeria implements a phased rollout of mandatory e-invoicing based on annual turnover:
- Organizations with over ₦5 billion annual revenue must onboard first
- Those between ₦1 billion and ₦5 billion follow
- Smaller businesses below ₦1 billion will be integrated in the final phase
Upperlink will provide comprehensive support, including designing compliant systems, integrating existing enterprise solutions, and offering middleware or portal-based options for organizations that need assistance connecting to the national infrastructure.
