Temenos Strengthens Position in Cloud-Based Banking

Temenos, a leading provider of banking software, is making significant strides in the cloud-banking space through an expanded partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a new project with First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) in Saudi Arabia. The company now offers a broader suite of its solutions as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) on AWS, covering core banking functions, digital channels, and payments.

This expansion allows banks to deploy Temenos technology in modular components or as an integrated platform—catering to various modernization approaches based on their existing infrastructure. The model supports institutions across retail, business, and corporate banking sectors while ensuring compatibility with legacy systems through pre-configured setups.

“Temenos SaaS on AWS meets banks where they are—with the security, scalability, and regulatory alignment that financial services demand,” said Scott Mullins, MD of worldwide financial services at AWS. “Whether modernizing incrementally or going end-to-end, institutions can now access new capabilities at their own pace.”

Strategic Advantages of Cloud Deployment

The collaboration leverages AWS’s global infrastructure to address data residency requirements while providing enhanced security and resilience—critical factors for financial institutions operating across borders. According to David Albertazzi, an executive advisor at Datos Insights, this approach aligns with the industry’s broader shift toward composable banking architectures.

“This introduces additional flexibility in how core, digital, and payments capabilities can be deployed and integrated,” Albertazzi noted. “Security, data sovereignty, and regulatory alignment remain central to platform selection as banks modernize their technology environments.”

First Abu Dhabi Bank Project in Saudi Arabia

The partnership with FAB extends beyond the initial AWS collaboration—with the bank implementing Temenos Core Banking, Payments Hub, and Data Hub on cloud infrastructure within the Kingdom. This project specifically targets FAB’s Islamic banking operations, enabling them to deliver Shari’ah-compliant services across various customer segments.

“We’re proud to extend our collaboration with FAB in Saudi Arabia—one of the region’s most dynamic banking markets,” said Santhosh Rao, managing director at Temenos. “Our core banking technology will empower FAB to accelerate its digital transformation and drive operational excellence.”

The new project builds on a decade-long relationship between Temenos and FAB, with the bank already utilizing multi-entity instances of Temenos Core Banking in 12 countries. This latest engagement underscores the growing demand for cloud-based banking solutions that meet both technological requirements and regional regulatory standards.
