Verascient Raises $1.2M to Help Companies Build High-Performing Teams with AI

Cape Town-based startup Verascient has closed a ZAR19.5 million (US$1.2 million) pre-seed funding round, backed by Founder Collective, Andrena Ventures, Cambridge Enterprise, and Summit Ventures – alongside investments from Alan Knott-Craig and Shayne Mann.

Verascient addresses the growing need for businesses to effectively integrate AI into their operations beyond simple tool deployment. The company provides both technology and expertise that transforms how organizations leverage AI capabilities to build more efficient teams.

Building Organizational Intelligence with Temporal Knowledge Graphs

The core of Verascient’s offering is a temporal knowledge graph that creates a comprehensive, secure understanding of an organization’s information landscape – including historical context, permissions, and data provenance. This allows AI agents to access relevant insights while maintaining appropriate security protocols.

Co-founder Ferreira explains: “There’s a significant difference between giving employees access to AI tools versus building a company that operates intelligently with AI. Verascient bridges this gap by understanding how businesses work and providing the secure infrastructure for AI agents to deliver tangible value.”

Scaling Through Talent Acquisition

With this funding, Verascient aims to expand its team with exceptional engineering and AI talent. Co-founder Stokoe emphasizes their focus on recruiting individuals who are not only technically proficient but also possess a high degree of ownership and initiative.

“We’re seeking the top 1% of AI talent – people who want genuine ownership and the freedom to create impactful solutions,” said Stokoe.
