Sionic Expands Reach with Enterprise Payment Solutions on Microsoft Azure

Atlanta-based payments company, Sionic, has launched its Instant Bank Pay service and integrated Fraud Detection capabilities on the Microsoft Marketplace. This move provides enterprise customers a streamlined pathway to deploy Sionic’s solutions within their existing Microsoft cloud ecosystems.

The service leverages both FedNow and The Clearing House RTP networks to enable near-instant fund transfers between checking accounts—moving money in seconds rather than days. According to Sionic, this approach delivers an average cost savings of 60% compared to traditional card payments.

Addressing Gaps in Real-Time Commerce

Sionic’s journey began with a pilot program in 2024 that identified key missing components in early A2A payment systems. These included:

  • Lack of an alias directory similar to Zelle
  • Absence of fraud detection tailored for account-to-account transactions
  • Limited dispute resolution frameworks

To address these gaps, Sionic utilized Microsoft Foundry—an agentic AI development environment—to build comprehensive solutions.

Intelligent Dispute Resolution with AI Agents

One notable innovation is Sionic’s approach to payment disputes. When a customer initiates a refund request:

  • An AI agent automatically negotiates directly with the merchant’s agent
  • Human intervention from financial institutions only occurs when escalation is needed

This architecture not only reduces operational costs for banks but also removes them from routine chargebacks—a significant expense in traditional card payment systems.

Industry Validation and Strategic Significance

The listing has received explicit endorsement from Nick Stanescu, Executive Vice President and Chief FedNow Executive at the Federal Reserve. His comments highlight that Sionic’s infrastructure meets operational standards for the FedNow network—signaling a level of integration beyond typical partnership announcements.

This launch represents a key milestone in Sionic’s mission to build low-cost payment infrastructure in the US, offering businesses an alternative to card networks while providing consumers with additional payment options through familiar interfaces like Apple Pay and Google Wallet.
