Salesforce Targets Back-Office Bottlenecks with New AI Agents

While enterprises have focused on using AI agents to optimize customer-facing workflows, a significant amount of operational inefficiency remains in back-office processes. To address this gap, Salesforce is launching Agentforce Operations, which tasks AI agents with automating manual tasks like returns processing, inventory reconciliation, and supply chain management.

The company claims that Agentforce Operations can reduce cycle times by up to 70% for tasks such as auditing and onboarding, while eliminating 80% of manual data entry. This new platform builds on Salesforce’s acquisition of Regrello, an AI-powered operating system for manufacturing and supply chains.

How It Works: Process Blueprints Power Agent Coordination

Agentforce Operations allows users to upload process diagrams (even simple ones from tools like Lucidchart or Word) which are then digitized into multi-step workflows. These blueprints coordinate “minion agents” that handle specific tasks, such as data extraction, calculations, and compliance checks.

For example, a single AI agent can now complete an audit in 60 seconds—a task that would typically take human auditors four hours to finish. Users continue working with familiar tools like email and Slack, with the system automatically flagging delays or suggesting improvements.

Implications for Enterprises

Industry analysts note that this approach could be particularly valuable for organizations seeking to modernize complex operational processes. As Matt Mullen of Deep Analysis put it: “The ability to rapidly create a digital version of a process from a diagram offers real potential, especially when combined with technologies like task mining.”

While Salesforce has traditionally focused on front-office applications, Agentforce Operations represents an expansion into critical areas that define how businesses operate—from manufacturing and logistics to finance and compliance.
