Paymentus Positions Itself as a Leading Tech Provider in Bill Payment Modernization

During the Goldman Sachs 2026 Communacopia + Technology conference, Paymentus executives outlined their strategic approach to bill payment modernization and expansion. CEO Dushyant Sharma emphasized that bill presentment and payment processing represent a technology platform opportunity rather than just transactional activity.

Sharma highlighted the significant volume in consumer bill payments—approximately 16-17 billion bills annually totaling around 60% of average household spending. He differentiated Paymentus’ approach from retail commerce, noting that service industries like utilities, insurance, and government require more secure solutions for agentic AI interactions.

Addressing Security Concerns with Secure Agent Capabilities

To address data security concerns in these regulated sectors, Paymentus is expanding its Billeo and BillWallet platforms. These allow billers to deploy AI agents while maintaining customer relationships and enforcing complex billing rules—ensuring sensitive consumer information remains protected.

The company’s technology supports both pay-in workflows (bill payments) and disbursement payouts across various industries with a single code base for both B2C and commercial channels.

Financial Performance and Growth Strategy

Paymentus CFO Sanjay Kalra highlighted the company’s financial efficiency, noting that in the most recent quarter, incremental EBITDA margins reached approximately 70%. This demonstrates the operating leverage built into their unified software architecture.

The company targets a compound annual growth rate of 20% for revenue and 20-30% for adjusted EBITDA. Strong customer retention and expanding distribution channels—including direct sales and partnerships with financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase—contribute to this visibility.

Rather than pursuing acquisition-led growth, Paymentus prioritizes organic expansion on its single code base. Management believes that building upon a unified platform avoids integration challenges while supporting long-term scalability.
