Meta Invests in Nigeria’s AI Talent Through New Academy

In a significant push to bolster Africa’s digital economy, Meta has announced the launch of AI Academy Nigeria. This initiative, developed in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN), aims to equip Nigerian developers, startups, students, and professionals with practical AI skills.

The academy will operate through three core streams:

Startup Pitchathon

Early-stage Nigerian startups using Meta’s AI technologies can apply for a chance to pitch at GITEX Nigeria on September 3, 2026. The top two winners will each receive $5,000 in funding and $2,000 in advertising credits, plus an all-expenses-paid trip to the AI Summit by Meta in Istanbul.

AI Skills Development

Open to all participants in Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, this track offers free courses covering generative AI fundamentals and applications using Meta’s models. Top performers will be eligible for scholarships toward paid certifications and additional advertising credits.

Developer Bootcamp

An intensive six-week bootcamp delivered by RAIN will provide hands-on experience in building functional AI products with technical guidance from industry experts.

“Through this partnership, we are equipping the next generation of Nigerian innovators with essential AI skills,” said Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy. “This initiative aligns with our vision of positioning Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.”

Meta’s Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa, Sade Dada, added that the academy will provide “exactly what Nigerian AI talent needs: practical training, funding, and platforms to build impactful solutions.”
