Google has announced the launch of its Google for Startups Accelerator: South Africa program, offering up to ZAR1 million (US$60,000) in equity-free funding to 15 growth-stage startups leveraging artificial intelligence. This forms part of Google’s commitment to support 50 South African startups over the next five years.
The three-month hybrid program, running from September 28th to December 4th, will provide selected startups with access to Google’s AI tools, cloud infrastructure, and mentorship from industry experts. Participants will receive one-to-one guidance on product development, data strategy, and operational challenges.
“We are committed to the long-term growth of South Africa’s tech ecosystem,” said Folarin Aiyegbusi, head of startup ecosystem for Africa at Google. “This program gives founders the support they need to scale responsibly and inclusively, so African-led companies can compete globally.”
The accelerator specifically targets historically disadvantaged person (HDP)-owned or controlled startups building AI-driven solutions for local market needs. Founders will gain access to advanced technologies like Gemini while retaining full ownership of their businesses. The curriculum covers product roadmapping, growth strategy, and connecting founders with a network of over 25 alumni and Google’s global community.
Applications are open until August 28th at [link to application portal].
