Peter Otobong’s path in technology began with a simple curiosity about how computers worked. Growing up, he dreamed of becoming a “mad scientist” who could build anything imaginable—a vision fueled by cartoons where imagination knew no bounds.

His first real interaction with this potential came through a borrowed laptop in 2014. While others learned basic applications, Otobong dove deeper, teaching himself to code and exploring the architecture beneath the surface. This hands-on experience transformed his childhood curiosity into tangible skills in C++ and web application development.

The Lesson Beyond Technical Feasibility

Early in his career, Otobong led a team at Fraqtion Finance working on software for cross-border trade finance. While technically feasible, the project ultimately failed due to regulatory hurdles and institutional support gaps. This experience taught him a critical lesson: “The biggest constraints are not always technical—they’re often systemic.”

He realized that technology doesn’t exist in isolation; it must integrate with existing systems, regulations, and institutions to truly succeed. This perspective shifted his focus from simply asking ‘can we build it?’ to ‘should we build it? And can it survive the world around it?‘

From Robotics to Financial Systems

Otobong’s journey took another turn during an internship at Atopets Automation, where he worked with robotics and automation systems. While this experience deepened his understanding of physical computing, he ultimately found himself drawn back to software—specifically, building the digital infrastructure that powers modern economies.

Today, Otobong focuses on developing financial solutions for businesses operating across borders, recognizing that technology’s greatest impact comes when it addresses real-world needs within complex systems. His career exemplifies how a passion for innovation can evolve into a nuanced understanding of technology’s role in shaping our world.
