FC Bayern Moves Data Center Operations to SAP Cloud

One of the world’s most prestigious football clubs, FC Bayern Munich has completed a major IT infrastructure upgrade by migrating its core enterprise applications to a private cloud environment powered by SAP. The move centralizes over 9.5 million fan and member records, plus extensive product data, into a single, secure platform.

“Even before the migration, we worked with SAP to consolidate our system landscape,” explained CIO Michael Fichtner. “We reduced 52 separate systems handling fan data down to one central database offering a complete 360-degree view of each member.” This foundation enabled the subsequent transition to the cloud.

The new environment leverages SAP Cloud ERP Private, providing FC Bayern with increased innovation capabilities, operational efficiency, and enhanced security. As part of the Rise with SAP approach, the club gains access to supplementary services including data integration tools and AI analytics via the Business Technology Platform.

“Migrating to the cloud unlocks access to ongoing innovation from SAP,” Fichtner noted. “It also simplifies integrating new technologies that are primarily offered as cloud-based solutions.” The move allows FC Bayern’s IT team to focus on strategic initiatives rather than managing infrastructure.

The private cloud setup ensures data sovereignty and compliance with regulations like GDPR while meeting industry standards for security and disaster recovery. Certified data centers provide centralized monitoring, updates, and protection against threats.

Expanding Digital Services

Beyond internal efficiencies, FC Bayern aims to use the new platform to deliver more personalized experiences to fans through targeted content and offers—all while maintaining strict data privacy controls. The club also plans to leverage AI across departments like HR, logistics, and finance to automate tasks and improve decision-making.
