Databricks Bolsters AI Capabilities with Row Zero Acquisition
Databricks, a leading data and artificial intelligence company, announced Thursday the acquisition of Row Zero, a modern spreadsheet builder designed to facilitate seamless human-AI collaboration. This strategic move will integrate Row Zero’s capabilities into Databricks’ AI coworker, Genie, providing users with a familiar interface for working with data.
Enhanced Data Interaction Through Familiar Interface
The acquisition aims to add a user-friendly spreadsheet experience to Genie, enabling business teams to transform data insights into actionable results. With Row Zero’s compatibility across leading spreadsheets and its governed integration capabilities, Databricks seeks to empower users of all technical levels.
“As more finance, operations, and go-to-market teams adopt Genie, incorporating a seamless spreadsheet experience is essential,” said Patrick Wendell, co-founder and VP of engineering at Databricks. “We’re excited to bring the Row Zero team on board to help evolve Genie into the AI coworker that every enterprise relies on.”
Continued Innovation with Expanded Team
The entire Row Zero team will join Databricks to further expand Genie’s functionality while maintaining support for various data sources beyond the Databricks platform. This ensures users can leverage their existing workflows and integrations.
Breck Fresen, founder and CEO of Row Zero, noted that “joining Databricks accelerates our vision of providing business users with a spreadsheet that is secure, connected, scalable, and deeply integrated with AI agents.”
This acquisition follows Databricks’ recent $5 billion funding round at a valuation of $190 billion, which the company plans to invest in expanding its AI offerings—including Genie—to meet the growing demand for enterprise-grade AI solutions.
