Citi Unveils New Platform to Embed AI Across Financial Operations

Citigroup has introduced Arc, a platform designed to enable the creation and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) agents throughout its organization. According to the company’s announcement last week, these agents are intended to “enhance human judgment by taking on tasks such as research, synthesis, preparation, and execution,” ultimately reducing manual effort and accelerating team workflows.

The new platform allows Citi to build specialized AI assistants that handle routine processes, freeing up employees for higher-value activities. For example, a wealth management banker who typically spends hours preparing client meeting materials could instead receive proactive briefings from AI agents tailored to each individual’s needs. This shift enables bankers to focus on building deeper relationships and delivering more personalized service.

“The role of the banker evolves more decisively from coordinator to architect and adviser,” Citi stated, emphasizing the transformative potential of AI in financial services. The company noted that over 80% of its workforce already regularly uses internal AI tools, demonstrating a strong foundation for this initiative.

Enterprise AI Market Poised for Explosive Growth

According to recent projections from Citi, the global AI market is expected to exceed $4.2 trillion by 2030, with nearly half of that total—$1.9 trillion—coming from enterprise applications. This represents a significant upward revision from previous forecasts, highlighting the accelerating adoption of AI across industries.

The launch of Arc aligns with this broader trend toward embedding AI into core business functions rather than treating it as isolated projects. By providing developers with tools to build governed and auditable agents, Citi aims to create a scalable foundation for enterprise-wide AI deployment.
