Afriex Expands Banking Network with Global Innovations Bank Partnership
Cross-border payments infrastructure provider Afriex has announced a strategic partnership with Global Innovations Bank (GIB) to enhance its B2B PaymentsAPI. This collaboration will enable faster settlements, broader regulatory support, and access to Global USD Accounts for businesses operating across more than 35 countries.
Afriex, which currently processes over $600 million in annual payment volume, has evolved from a consumer remittance company into a comprehensive global payments platform. The company’s API combines local payment rails with international banking connectivity, allowing businesses to launch and scale cross-border payment products without building extensive local infrastructure.
The partnership with GIB represents the latest milestone in Afriex’s strategy of creating a robust global banking network that bridges local market expertise with international settlement capabilities. This complements existing relationships with banks like Choice Bank in Kenya and United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Nigeria, forming a regulated financial foundation for seamless money movement across emerging markets.
“Building global payment infrastructure requires more than just adding new corridors—it’s about creating the banking foundation that ensures every transaction is faster, more reliable, and scalable,” said Tope Alabi, Founder and CEO of Afriex. “GIB’s experience in navigating cross-border payments makes them an ideal partner as we continue to build the infrastructure for next-generation fintech solutions.”
The agreement will provide:
- Faster settlement times across supported corridors
- Access to Global USD Accounts
- Expanded regulatory and banking coverage
- Enhanced operational resilience
Looking ahead, Afriex plans to introduce additional treasury, FX, and global account capabilities through this partnership. Alex Goody, Chief Product Officer at GIB, noted that their team’s experience in solving cross-border payment challenges aligns perfectly with Afriex’s mission.
With banking partnerships now spanning the United States, Nigeria, Kenya, and other key markets, Afriex is solidifying its position as a leading financial infrastructure provider for companies building global payments solutions.
