Chioma Angela Onukogu has been appointed by the African Development Bank to the position of Director of Board Affairs and Proceedings in the Office of the Secretary-General and the General Secretariat, with effect from April 16, 2024.
With over 25 years of experience in corporate governance and international development cooperation, Onukogu is a native of Nigeria. In addition to managing country operations portfolios, she has vast experience in resource mobilization and partnerships, high-level event planning, and safeguarding the integrity of the bank’s governance systems.
Before this appointment, Onukogu served as Chief Board Program and Quality Control Coordinator and Acting Director of Board Affairs and Proceedings, assisting the Secretary-General in ensuring the General Secretariat’s effectiveness.
Onukogu previously worked as a Principal Resource Mobilization and Relationships Officer, managing relationships and mobilizing fund resources while preparing important documents for the mid-term review of ADF-13 and the ADF-14 replenishment. Along with overseeing the creation of country strategy papers and keeping tabs on the bank’s portfolio in these nations, she also served as the country program officer for Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.
Onukogu has a master’s degree in corporate and commercial law from the University of London, a master’s degree in international law and diplomacy from the University of Lagos, a graduate diploma in law from the University of Law in London, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Lagos.
Commenting on her appointment, Onukogu said, “I thank President Adesina for his leadership and trust in me. I look forward to working under the Secretary General’s leadership to facilitate the decision-making processes of the Bank’s governance organs and to forge better working relationships with the shareholders in their joint effort to deliver high-quality operations in support of the vision of a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and integrated Africa.”
Dr. Akinwumi A.
