The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) welcomes the Hong Kong SAR Government’s decision to reappoint Hon. Sunny Tan as Chairman for a further two-year term starting on August 6, 2024.
The HKPC is sincerely appreciative of Chairman Tan’s excellent leadership during the previous two years. Under his direction, HKPC has developed into one of Hong Kong’s top institutes for applied research and has played a significant role in promoting new productive forces and easing industrialization.
Over the years, HKPC’s research and development (R&D) endeavors have yielded exceptional results, garnering more than 200 esteemed domestic, global, and regional accolades, such as the esteemed “Edison Awards” and “R&D 100 Awards.” Early in July, HKPC opened Hong Kong’s first “Future Manufacturing Hall,” showcasing cutting-edge production technologies for intelligent production lines and innovative “micro-factory” concepts. This represents a critical turning point in Hong Kong’s industrial modernization and transition.
Chairman Sunny Tan expressed his appreciation for his reappointment, stating, “I sincerely appreciate the trust the HKSAR Government has placed in me and the recognition of my work over the past two years. In the upcoming term, I will continue to leverage my extensive industrial experience to lead HKPC in promoting new productive forces, facilitating industrialization, and advancing R&D achievements. We aim to transform innovations from ‘1 to N,’ applying them in areas such as advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and cybersecurity. Our goal is to help traditional industries upgrade and enhance the overall competitiveness of ‘Made in Hong Kong.’ HKPC and I are committed to positioning Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology hub, leveraging our strengths to meet national needs, attract talent and resources, and support Mainland enterprises in accessing global markets. This will help Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area seize new opportunities.”
Mr. Mohamed D. Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, is confident that under Chairman Tan’s leadership, HKPC will continue to advance technological innovation, application, and value generation. HKPC will help conventional industries upgrade and change by leveraging sophisticated technology, FutureSkills training, and government funding programs, as well as encouraging emergent industries and building future sectors.
