Ecobank, the pan-African financial services Group, is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 7th edition of its Fintech Challenge. This annual competition calls for early-stage and mature fintech startups to collaborate with Ecobank, with the chance to win a grand prize of US$50,000 and the opportunity to expand their solutions across Ecobank’s extensive network spanning 35 African countries.
Fintech challenges
Despite the burgeoning fintech landscape in Africa, a McKinsey report highlights that fintech startups on the continent still encounter various challenges, including scaling, navigating regulatory complexities, and securing funding. The Ecobank Fintech Challenge offers a distinctive opportunity for Fintech Entrepreneurs to tackle these obstacles. Not only does it offer financial rewards, but it also provides access to Ecobank’s expertise in diverse market operations and solutions for scaling across its pan-African footprint and international presence, including France.
Growth, transformation and returns

Fellowship program
The previous year’s competition garnered 1,490 entries of exceptional quality, emphasizing the importance of this pan-African challenge. Successful candidates who advance to the Grand Finale and Awards Ceremony in October 2024 will be eligible to participate in the prestigious Ecobank Fintech Fellowship program. The overall winner will receive a cash prize of US$50,000.
Ecobank Fintech Fellows will gain access to numerous opportunities through collaboration with Ecobank and its partners, potentially including:
Multinational product rollout: an opportunity to integrate their solutions with Ecobank, opening doors to potential product launches within Ecobank’s expansive 35-country Pan-Africannetwork.
Service provider partnerships: Selected fintechs may become Pan-African service partners within the Bank’s ecosystem.
Access to Ecobank’s Pan-African Banking Sandbox: Fellows will receive exclusive access to Ecobank’s cutting-edge APIs, enabling them to test and develop their products for the Pan-African market.
Priority access to Ecobank’s Venture Capital partners for funding exploration.
Since its inception, 60 fintech startups have been admitted into the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship.
The Ecobank Fintech Challenge is crafted in collaboration with the international advisory firm Konfidants and is backed by various partners.
Applications for the 7th Ecobank Fintech Challenge are now open to fintechs and developers from across Africa, as well as global fintechs centered on Africa.
