Premier South African law firm Webber Wentzel has today announced a multi-faceted partnership with leading legal AI platform Legora.

The Legora platform has been rolled out across the firm—and this marks just the start of a deeper, long-term collaboration.

As part of the partnership, Legora will also serve as the first official anchor technology in Webber Wentzel’s Innovation Lab, marking the start of a co-development journey to design solutions purpose-built for the South African and broader African legal markets.

The partnership follows a year-long evaluation of Legora, which included stringent security-first testing and assessment against other AI platforms. After extensive engagement and positive feedback from Webber Wentzel’s legal and business teams, Legora was selected to be deployed at scale across the firm.

Co-Developing Legal Technology for Africa

At the heart of this partnership is a shared vision: collaborating to create legal technology that is not retrofitted from foreign markets but is designed from the ground up for Africa’s operational, cultural, and regulatory realities.

Through the partnership, Webber Wentzel will serve as Legora’s marquee design partner for Africa.

This collaboration will ensure mutual value creation with co-development as its core. Webber Wentzel professionals will be able to shape, test, and refine tools in real time to create solutions that truly meet the specific needs of the African legal environment.

About the Innovation Lab

As part of the Lab’s client-focused mandate, Webber Wentzel works with clients to solve real-world challenges within their legal departments—whether around process, resourcing, data, or technology. Staying true to its client-first approach, Fusion will work closely with clients to identify the right strategies and tools for each client’s unique context. When AI-led solutions are the right fit, participating clients may access Legora on preferential commercial terms, supported by legal engineering expertise from Fusion.

This will include direct access to Legora’s platform, enabling clients to test, explore, and shape cutting-edge legal technology solutions for their specific use cases in collaboration with the firm’s lawyers and technologists. This hands-on, co-creation environment is designed to tackle both legal and business challenges, delivering measurable improvements that increase productivity, reduce friction, surface better insights, and align legal workflows more closely with business priorities.

Human-first innovation

Legora works directly with the people behind law firms and corporate legal departments to ensure solutions are intuitive, practical, and aligned with real-world workflows. This human-first, client-led design ethos enables rapid adaptation and product refinement.

The partnership will reflect this shared philosophy that tech innovation is not a one-time investment but a continuous process with people at the core of its success. Co-development will have a shared focus on advancing Legora to cater to the African legal market while also providing hands-on adoption and utilization support for the legal professionals who will be using it.

Aalia Manie, Head of Fusion at Webber Wentzel, said, “We have been deeply impressed with Legora throughout the extensive evaluation process. What began as a pilot has become a hands-on partnership focused on shaping AI tools that reflect the realities of legal practice in Africa—where complexity, culture, and regulatory nuance demand more than off-the-shelf solutions.

“Our lawyers and business teams quickly saw the value—not just in the product, but in the way Legora supports integration and adoption. That level of collaboration has allowed us to move faster and with more confidence. We’re now building together with purpose: not chasing innovation for its own sake but developing tools that respond to the realities our clients face. We are excited about what’s coming and what we can do together.”

Max Junestrand, CEO, Legora, said, “Legora’s selection by Webber Wentzel after a rigorous trial and testing against other platforms is a reflection of the value that we can deliver to firms, individual lawyers, and their clients in all markets globally.

“As we continue to expand into new territories, we stay true to our belief that collaboration with legal professionals is essential to innovation that delivers real, lasting impact. We’re delighted to be embarking on this unique partnership with Webber Wentzel that will see Legora sit at the heart of the firm’s own AI innovation and truly shape a legal AI offering for the African legal sector.”
