Launch of National Results Operations Centre- ROC for 2024 NPE- National and Provincial Elections, Midrand, South Africa.
The Electoral Commission has officially inaugurated the National Results Operations Centre- ROC in anticipation of the forthcoming 2024 National and Provincial Elections.
Principal command center, central point for Political parties, Media
Situated at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, the National ROC will function as the principal command center for electoral activities. Additionally, it will act as a central point for political parties, independent candidates, observers, business leaders, and the media to obtain real-time election results.
Why change of venue to the new one?
According to the IEC, the venue that has always been used as ROC is now not in the same architectural standards that it used to be in. It is run down and dilapidating due to lack of maintenance.
Since the inaugural democratic elections in 1994, the Tshwane Events Centre has served as the chosen national results operation centre for the IEC. However, due to neglect and vandalism, the IEC has been compelled to seek an alternative venue.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officer for IEC, Masego Sheburi, supports the move to the new venue, Gallagher Convention Center, “The facility is suitable for our needs, being an exhibition facility, most of the basic infrastructure is already in place. While our preference would have been a state facility, it wasn’t possible this time, so we must ensure Gallagher functions effectively as our results center.”
Sheburi affirmed that the IEC was fully prepared to conduct free and fair elections the 29th of May 2024.
Hi- tech, real-time results around the clock
At present, Gallagher Convention Center is abuzz with activity as IEC officials finalize preparations before the official launch begins. The high- tech equipped ROC will stream real-time election results from all corners of the country and it will be opened for 24 hours on the election day, 29 May 2024.The post IEC Opens 2024 NPE Results Center: South African Elections first appeared on IT News Africa | Business Technology, Telecoms and Startup News.
